Stories From a Silent City: A Cemetery History Walk

Neighborhood: Laurel Heights

During the period from 1852 to the mid-1940s the Big Four cemetaries, Laurel Hill, Calvary, Masonic and Odd Fellows, covered the Laurel Hill, Jordan Park and Lone Mountain area. San Francisco pioneers, including Emperor Norton, were buried here. The fascinating history of this little-known area will unfold with old photographs, the story of why and how the cemetaries were moved , and we'll end up where many San Franciscans have their final rest, the Columbarium, which was the enterance to the Odd Fellows Cemetery.
