Golden Gate Park: Everyone's Park

Join City Guides for our third annual Megatour
Saturday, June 6, 2020

Golden Gate Park: Everybody’s Park is a seven-mile extended walking tour exploring San Francisco’s premier green space. This trek will cover stories from the beginning of the park, all the way through the current 150th anniversary celebration.

Over two dozen of our expert volunteer guides and community partners will lead you and share the stories behind the park’s evolution and how that transformed windswept sand dunes into the modern park that we enjoy today.

Along the way you’ll learn:

  • Discover the remains of a twelfth-century abbey, purchased from William Randolph Hearst.
  • Hear stories of the oldest model yacht club in the U.S. and see many vintage sailing model yachts.
  • Visit “Uncle John’s” house, and it’s wood paneled commissioner’s meeting room.
  • Relive part of the Summer of Love as we see where Janis Joplin and George Harrison held court.
  • Bring a friend or meet a friend…reminisce about something old or discover something new…and learn from folks who have been leading walking tours in San Francisco for over 40 years – longer than anyone else!

New for 2020 – Proceeds from the 2020 Megatour will go towards the SFCG/Ca Historical Society scholarship fund – providing local San Francisco students with funding to study San Francisco history. For more information on the scholarship, please click here.

Because our previous Megatours were sellouts, we’ve expanded this year’s event to accommodate even more walkers. 150 slots for the 150th anniversary of Golden Gate Park. We’ll even provide lunch – all you provide are comfortable walking shoes (and, please, dress in layers as we will pass through many of SF’s famed micro-climates).

Early Bird Pricing will go on sale May 1, 2020!
Note that once tickets go on sale, due to the nature of this event, refunds unfortunately cannot be issued.
In the case that you cannot attend the Megatour, $50 of your ticket price will be tax deductible.
