SF City Guides 2nd Annual Megatour

City Front: Tides of Change is a six-mile extended walking tour exploring San Francisco's evolving waterfront. This trek along the shoreline and into nearby neighborhoods travels from the site of 19th Century woolen mills near Aquatic Park, all the way to the former industrial zone of Dogpatch, a neighborhood that’s now undergoing a residential resurgence.

Two dozen of our expert volunteer guides will lead you and share the stories behind the waterfront’s evolution and how that transformed sleepy Yerba Buena into modern San Francisco – and continue today.

Along the way you’ll learn:

  • How a chance meeting in Argentina led to a delicious, world-famous San Francisco institution
  • How the first “freeway revolt” halted the completion of an elevated route along the shoreline – and how the fate of that freeway changed the entire waterfront for miles
  • Why today’s financial district stands on some shaky ground, thanks to the explosive population growth of the Gold Rush
  • The story of a 19th Century neighborhood so pleasant that its residents called it Happy Valley – and the settlers that destroyed it
  • How a district of disused warehouses and old piers became home to two professional sports franchises that have won six championship titles in just the last 10 years
  • Bring a friend or meet a friend…reminisce about something old or discover something new…and learn from folks who have been leading walking tours in San Francisco for 41 years – longer than anyone else!

Because our 40th Anniversary Megatour last year was a sellout, we’ve expanded this year’s event to accommodate even more walkers. We’ll even provide lunch – all you provide are comfortable walking shoes (and, please, dress in layers as we will pass through many of SF's famed micro-climates).

Sign up now and discover a whole new side of The City you didn't know!

Note that once tickets go on sale, due to the nature of this event, refunds unfortunately cannot be issued.
In the case that you cannot attend the Megatour, $40 of your ticket price will be tax deductible.
