The inscription on this marker is: You are standing at the western terminus of the Lincoln Highway.

This marker is in front of the California Palace of the Legion of Honor in Lincoln Park and marks the Lincoln Highway, the first coast-to-coast highway. The highway was 3,300 miles long and crossed 12 states. It began at Times Square in New York City and ended in Lincoln Park in San Francisco.

The remains of the Lincoln Highway are now part of Interstate 80. Other markers in California are in Livermore, Eldorado Hills, Truckee, Elk Grove, and Davis.
