Mariachis, Airshow, Italian Parade, and where’s Karl?

Home > Mariachis, Airshow, Italian Parade, and where’s Karl?

October is full of fun activities in San Francisco.

October is a marvelous time to visit San Francisco. The weather is generally mild and pleasant, making it ideal for taking one or two of our diverse walking tours. The average daytime high temperature is 70°F, with an average low of 54°F. Karl, the Fog, is not around as much, and there are typically only slight chances of rain. City Guides always recommend wearing layers and comfortable walking shoes on our tours. We provided a wide range of ideas for you, your family, and friends to consider when visiting San Francisco in October and taking a City Guides tour.

Hispanic Heritage Month in San Francisco

Mariachi music, street parties, lowriders, and weeks of festivities will fill San Francisco over the next month as the City celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month. This month-long celebration is a tribute to the rich and diverse Hispanic culture that has long shaped the city, particularly the Mission District, from driving labor movements and economic growth to enriching its cultural identity.

San Francisco City Guides celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month and all the contributions of our Latino community by offering the following tours in October:

  • HERstory: Women Muralists of the Mission
  • Mission Dolores Neighborhood
  • Mission Murals
  • Murals and the Multi-Ethnic Mission District

Fleet Week, October 4-12

San Francisco Fleet Week is a celebration of the U.S. Armed Forces. It is a week filled with activities, from the famous Blue Angels air show and parade of ships to ship tours, concerts, and more. Whether you are a history buff, an aviation fan, or just looking for a fun day out, there is something for everyone. The famous air show is October 9 to 11 on the waterfront.

San Francisco City Guides honors the men and women of our Armed Forces and their history and contributions to our city by offering the following tours in October:

  • Fort Mason Historic District
  • Fort Mason to Aquatic Park
  • Maritime SF
  • Palace of Fine Arts/Marina
  • Presidio: From Military Base to National Park with Tunnel Tops

Italian Heritage Festival and Parade, October 11

San Francisco’s Italian American Community celebrates the Italian Heritage Festival & Parade in North Beach, a significant event that brings the community together and features Italian and Italian American dignitaries, music, performances, floats, and representatives of Italian and Italian American organizations and businesses.

San Francisco City Guides appreciates the contributions of the Italian American community in the city of San Francisco. We celebrate their contributions by offering the following tours in October:

  • Beat Generation in SF: Rebels, Writers, and Visionaries
  • Fisherman’s Wharf: A Hidden History
